Welcome to the HeartCode PALS course which uses a personalized adaptive algorithm that sets students on the most efficient path to PALS mastery. Students follow a continuously adapting learning path that is personalized by their own inputs: their performance and their self- reported confidence level related to each probe. After completing the online portion, students will attend a structured, Instructor-led hands-on session that focuses on meaningful skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols and skills testing.
It is recommended to obtain the PALS textbook prior to class. Students can purchase classroom supplies from AHA directly at https://shopcpr.heart.org/pals. The e-book cost is $50.00. (Make sure it is the 2020 guideline addition). It cannot be reprinted, downloaded or copied. It will not disappear over time like some books do after a college semester. The manual /textbook is $56.70 it also includes reference Cards. AHA also offers e-book digital reference cards for $10.00. Feel free to bring your actual provider manual or electronic reader or reference cards to the classroom to utilize them during class as a reference tool.

You can access the online portion of the course by going to: https://shopcpr.heart.org/heartcode-pals. The online portion is $168.00. Access to the PALS provider manual is included with the purchase price. Duration of the course is approximately 4 hours depending on the student proficiency. The cost of the in-person skills instruction is $125.00 payable to Health Career Training Center. Class time usually runs 5 hours.
American Heart has recently added PALS Plus. (Which might be of interest to you). The cost is $268.00 payable to American Heart. You can take either/or but you DO NOT have to take both.
PALS Plus™ Course Option
The American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Academy of Pediatrics collaborated to develop PALS Plus, a pediatric advanced life support course designed for more experienced pediatric healthcare professionals seeking advanced educational content. This course teaches more than the standard PALS curriculum through the addition of 9 PALS Advanced eLearning Modules related to pediatric emergencies.
The full course includes an online portion consisting of HeartCode® PALS Online and the student’s selection of at least 6 of the 9 PALS Plus Advanced eLearning Modules, followed by a HeartCode PALS hands-on skills session with an authorized AHA PALS Instructor.
After successful completion of all PALS Plus Provider Course components, students will receive a PALS Plus Provider eCard (a PALS Provider eCard with a special designation of “PALS Plus”), valid for 2 years. Students may select from the following modules:
- Advanced Airway Management
- Child Abuse
- Toxicology
- Trauma—Overview and Approach
- Technologically Dependent Child
- Sedation and Analgesia
- Post–Cardiac Arrest Care
- Ultrasound
- Congenital Heart Disease
Important: There is an online survey at the end of the online session. Complete it, then you will be able to print off the certificate of completion. You will need to EMAIL this to your instructor before you attend the classroom portion at HCTCLI30@gmail.com. If you do not have your certificate of completion, you will not be able to complete the skills practice and testing of the course.
Location: 625 middle country road, Coram – next to Coram bowling alley. Park in the rear. Enter the back of the building, go down the stairs, through the grey door walk towards the end of the hallway. We are the classroom at the end of the hallway, Suite M7.
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. You will be practicing skills that require working on your hands and knees, bending, standing, and lifting. Do you have long hair? Then please bring a scrunchy or other means of holding your hair back for comfort while doing compressions. If you have physical conditions that might prevent you from participating in the course, please tell one of the instructors when you arrive for class. The instructor will work to accommodate your needs within the stated course completion requirements.
In the unfortunate event that you are experiencing illness, please notify your instructor to reschedule your training. If you have recently tested positive for Covid; recently traveled; have been asked to self-quarantine; and/or are actively sick with fever and cough kindly reschedule your class.
